Dr. Suraj Abdulkarim is a Public Health Specialist and seasoned public servant with extensive experience in Tuberculosis, Leprosy, and HIV program management, health systems analysis, planning, monitoring, and evaluation. Competent in participative planning, as well as formulating and implementing TB and HIV policies and recommendations. He advocated for the preparation and adoption of the 2005-2009 Gombe State Strategic Health preparation Plan for the health sector, as well as the passage of the state's HIV/AIDS anti-discrimination law.
He was a control officer for the TB and leprosy program and also the Project Manager, Gombe State Agency for Control of AIDS, whose main job was the coordination of the HIV/AIDS response in the state.
Dr. Suraj is currently the Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics (DPRS), Gombe State Ministry of Health. As part of his education, he has taken a number of local and international courses, workshops, and conferences.
Dr. Suraj has received various prizes and commendations, including the following:
2016: Merit Award in supporting orphans, widows and uncountable less privileged in society by difference-skill acquisition center limited
2015: Award of Excellence in rural community development and best project manager of SACA in the northeast by House of representative community on rural development
2015 Award of Excellence in Public Health Care Management, Gombe state medical student?s association

2018. Merit Award for Contributions to TB Control in Nigeria from TB Programme Managers Forum of Nigeria
